Happily Exhausted

Tomorrow 1stdibs is holding a cocktail party in our new space. (They moved right before I started). It's going to be interesting to see what kind of a crowd they draw.

Work is going really well. I got a project all to myself, which makes me very happy. It's got a 90 day timeline, so I'll be finishing up right before the family reunion, which is going to make the reunion even that much better of a vacation.

Will update again soon. Hope everyone is well.

Settled

Finally settled.

Took the movers 3 weeks exactly to get my things from ATL to NYC. I'm not really sure how the math works on that one, but it really doesn't matter at this point!

And I thought my room was tiny before there was stuff in it. Now it's even smaller. I thought Kathy was joking when she said, "Make sure you find a place that at least has enough floor space for us to sleep on!" Sorry Kat. Lol. My room is 8x10', and my bed takes up most of my space. We can probably still make it work though.

"Your box is your bedroom, New York is your living room." There's always the entire city at your fingertips, and that somehow makes it all ok.

Even with things as ridiculous as housing costs. Someone told me not to compare things like housing here to what you would have in other cities, because it will just make you sad. You just gotta appreciate what you've got and run with it. It's sooo true. I looked at housing in Atlanta that costs what our apartment does, and at prices for 3 bedroom whatevers (which is what I'm in) in Atlanta, and the differences aren't even worth looking at. It's ridiculous enough to make you feel really dumb for living in this city. The only good news for me is that there are 1.6 million other people that are all as dumb as I am, and that's just the Manhattan population. This is one crazy city.

I also started running. I said that I wanted to, and someone gave me a path to run. So I did. Turns out it's a 5 mile run! And I did it, so I'm pretty proud that I can still run 5 miles. Here's the map:

The path goes straight out to the west-side hwy, where there is a linear park that runs along the edge of the river. As I run I get to look at the NJ skyline. It's pretty cool. And I'm finding that I like running much more than I ever have in the past. It's like taking a shower for your brain. Totally necessary to wash away work.

Now I just have to keep it up.

Hope you're all doing well. I'm finally settled into my life here. The city is expensive as all hell, and maintaining my budget is hard, but I'm working hard to get a raise and to pay off my debt, so I'll get a double-increase on my net income soon.

Hope everyone is well. Ciao.
